After the recent clashes last week (April 10, Saturday) between the Anti Government Protesters (UDD) and Thailand’s Security Forces, Bangkok is finally becoming a little calm and peaceful. Tomorrow Tuesday 13th April sees the start of 3 days of national non working holiday to celebrate the Thai New Year or “Songkran Water Festival” as it is known. Songkran is a time for families to spend time together and celebrate by welcoming the new year.

It is uncertain if further demonstrations will take place during this holiday period but Turismo Asia will continue to monitor the situation during the holidays and continue with daily updates. For now the Anti Government Protestors continue to demonstrate at the Rajdamri intersection in one of the main entertainment and shopping districts of Bangkok. The connecting roads still remain closed and as a security measure a few of the malls in close vicinity of the site have reduced working hours or closed for business. Bangkok’s popular hotels and shopping areas located around this vicinity are also affected due to disturbances caused by demonstrators.
